Even during the time of winter when all seems to be dormant, and life seems to be ceased for a while, even in the outer nature areas, there still is great workings going on in the roots of all that live. The life is still in the root. So also has this been a time that the Word of the LORD GOD OF ISRAEL has gone forth, even though people may look around and say, "Where is the word of God coming forth?" From the beginning and forever His Word goes out of Zion. His Word has been working, making great changes. And even as the bud comes forth when it is still winter, you know that the blossom is near and the fruit shall come.

Today is freezing and we expect snow to fall over Jerusalem. There are rumors of war and the plottings of the enemies surround this LAND. Please, Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, for the People and for the Land. Bless the LORD GOD OF ISRAEL and stand with His Chosen People.

The almond tree is the first tree to sprout and the last one to lose its leaves. Its flowers symbolize the cups that crown the seven branches of the Jewish candelabra (Ex. 25:33-36; 37:19-20). In the biblical books, the almond tree is mentioned several times (Gen. 30:37-39; 43:11). The prophet, Jeremiah, mentions it in a vision: The word of the LORD was addressed to me asking, "Jeremiah, what to you see?" "I see a branch of the watchful tree," I answered. Then the LORD said, "Well seen! I too watch over My Word to see it fulfilled" (Jer. 1:11-12). In this text there is a word game between the Hebrew words shaqed, a/mond tree, and shoqed, I watch. Also, the image of the almond tree, the first tree to bloom, reminds us of the watchful eye of God, that watches over His Word to set it to practice.

 In so many instances, the Scriptures use plants, trees and animals native to Israel to introduce spiritual truths and principles. Indeed, entire biblical doctrines are built upon unique aspects of specific trees, such as the almond, the fig or the olive tree. The almond tree serves as an excellent example. When the prophet Jeremiah was shown the branch of an almond tree, the Lord said it symbolizes “watching over My word to perform it.” From observing the same almond tree today, we know it is the first tree to blossom in the Land of Israel, and yet the last to bear its fruit. It's growing season is from late winter to late autumn. From this, the Lord wants us to take heart and know that, no matter how long it takes, He is going to perform all that He has promised in His Word concerning Israel and His People.
